Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Melissa Chan, from The Bendahari in Melaka. I would like to
introduce you to a programme that I hope your school would be interested
in, this coming August 26th.
The School of Heritage Trades Programme is presented together with
University of Nottingham Malaysia.
The objective of this exhibition is to help students appreciate our local
history, and intangible cultural heritage through an awareness of everyday
vanishing trades. Bringing learning beyond the classroom: For one week,
this pop-up community museum will showcase five traditional trades from the
viewpoint of the tradespeople, the inter-personal relationship that each
trade fosters, and technology as an immersive tool will help to bridge our
past, present & future.
Visiting students will experience a half-day programme including a hands-on
workshop, immersive exhibitions and meet the traders themselves. The cost
of RM40 per student (only for Melakan schools), funds raised for this
project go to the costs incurred for developing the exhibition. There is
also up to 4 tickets allocated for teachers who are chaperoning the
students.
I do hope that schools see the value of this programme.
My apologies also for the short notice on this project. We have been busy
working on the content for it and are working on a very lean team, and
everything has been crowd-funded, and community led.
