To celebrate Melaka as one of the remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site, our Year 5 to Year 11 students joined an excursion to the city of Melaka on 9th March 2023 with objectives to learn about the history of Melaka under the different colonial powers and their influence on Melaka’s development
The trip commenced with a stroll down memory lane at the A’Famosa Fortress, which is built by the Portuguese colonists in the early 16th century and one of the oldest surviving remnants of European architecture in Asia. The students were also endowed to have Mr Allein Moore, the author of ‘The Story of Melaka’ book, to join them and shared the history of Melaka at the ruins of St. Paul’s church, followed with some fun quizzes given.
Stadthuys, which remained the center of Dutch Administration in Melaka until 1824, became the next checkpoint of the excursion. They went in the Museum of History and Ethnography where significant artifacts about the history of the city are on display.
Done with the museum visit, 86 of our students hopped on the colourful trishaws together and took a ride through streets and corners of Melaka’s historic city center. Such an exciting moment!
To complete the trip, the students went for a cruise along the Melaka river as taking a river cruise is like seeing Melaka from the back door. Then, they had their lunch at Makan Avenue continued with the popular sweet delight ‘Cendol Kampung Hulu’ 😋
The excursion ended at 3 pm and they went back home with a bag full of meaningful memories and information
