Melaka International School Students Shine at the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round in Sydney, Australia
Melaka International School continuously provides different avenues for students to excel academically. Six students from MIS brought pride to the country as they reaped awards from the Sydney Global Round of the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC), an international academic tournament attracting students from all over the world.
The idea behind the World Scholar’s Cup is to create something different than traditional academic competitions. It is not only a celebration of learning, but also a highly rewarding tournament. Moreover, the WSC is an enrichment opportunity that motivates students to demonstrate their existing strengths in addition to discovering new ones.
The theme for the WSC 2019 competition was “A World on the Margins”. A total of 2,119 young scholars from across the globe participated at the event in Sydney, Australia from August 15-20,2020. MIS teams brought laurels to the school by winning 35 medals across four team and individual events; Team Debate, Collaborative Essay Writing, the Scholar’s Challenge (a rigorous exam which tests individual learning across several subjects like Literature, Social Studies, History, Science and Technology, Music and Arts and a Special Area), and the Scholar’s Bowl ( a team quiz event).
Zareen Tasnim Haque, Dharveena Velan and Diveenah Elangkovan(Team 820) won gold medal in Team Debate, silver Medal in Individual Writing, and gold and silver medals in Scholar’s Challenge. Also, Sze Xiun Lung, Syaza Eliya Sheikh Muzafar and Syaza Emira Sheikh Muzafar(Team 82) won gold medal in Team Debate, silver medal in Scholar’s Bowl, and silver medal in Collaborative Writing. The teams were trained by their coach, Mr Paulo Cedillo Dorongon.
Earlier this year, Melaka International School competed at the regional round of the World Scholar’s Cup at Sri KDU International School in Kuala Lumpur. The young scholars bagged a number of medals across all events and subjects, which made them qualified for the global round in Sydney, Australia.
The teams from Melaka International School have qualified and will be heading to the prestigious World Scholar’s Cup-Tournament of Champions at Yale University, USA in November 2019 after excelling in different events at the recently concluded global round of the world scholar’s cup in Sydney, Australia.
This is truly a remarkable achievement for Melaka International School (MIS) and its students. At MIS, every student a success story.
